Tripo 3D model MCP server

by mordor-forge

Let your AI turn text or pictures into 3D models, then convert and clean them up for you.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Make a 3D model of a wooden treasure chest”, the Tripo 3D model MCP server connects it to Tripo, and you get back A 3D model file on your computer.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to Tripo, a service that makes 3D models. You describe what you want or hand it a picture, and the AI can create a 3D model file for you. It is handy if you work with 3D content but do not want to learn a modeling program.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to another service. This one connects your AI to Tripo, so it can ask Tripo to build a 3D model and bring the finished file back to you. You just ask in normal words, and the helper does the technical back and forth.

What this MCP server does

You tell your AI what kind of 3D model you want, either in words or by pointing it at an image. The AI passes that request to this helper, which sends it to Tripo. Tripo builds the model and the helper waits for it to finish, then downloads the file to a folder on your computer. Along the way it can also convert the file to a different format or tidy up the shape.

What you can do with it

  • Create a 3D model from a text description
  • Create a 3D model from a picture or several pictures
  • Convert a model between formats like GLB, FBX, OBJ, STL and USDZ
  • Rebuild a messy model with cleaner geometry (retopology)
  • Apply a different art style to a model
  • Check your Tripo account balance and usage
  • Upload and download model files

Try asking your AI

  • “Make me a 3D model of a wooden treasure chest from this description”
  • “Turn this photo of a sneaker into a 3D model”
  • “Convert the last model you made into an STL file”
  • “Clean up the geometry on that model and save it again”

What it gives back to you

You get a downloaded model file saved to a folder on your computer, usually in a format like GLB. The chat also shows a short answer, like the file name, the format, and where it was saved. For account questions it gives you numbers, such as your remaining credits. If something goes wrong, it tells you what happened.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Tripo account and API key (a kind of password for apps; Tripo gives you one from your account page)
  • The Go programming language installed to build the program
  • A folder path where you want the finished models saved

Good to know

Generating and processing models uses Tripo credits, so each request can spend money on your account.

Install it with your AI

Add Tripo 3D model MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
