Google Chat MCP server

by A1-x-Tech

Lets your AI read, search, and send messages in your Google Chat spaces and direct messages.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to your Google Chat. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI to catch up on a conversation, reply in a thread, or add a reaction, and it does it for you. It is handy if you live in Google Chat all day and want to stop scrolling to find things.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app. This one connects your AI to Google Chat, so it can look things up and do things there when you ask. You stay in control: it acts as you, under your name.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like what was discussed in the team space today. Your AI passes that request to this helper, which talks to Google Chat using your Google account. Google Chat sends back the messages, names, and threads, and your AI turns that into a summary or a list for you. If you ask it to send or reply, it shows you the draft first and waits for your OK before posting. Everything happens under your name, so it looks like you wrote it.

What you can do with it

  • List your spaces and find a direct message with someone
  • Read and summarize today's messages in a space
  • Send a message or reply in a thread
  • Edit or delete your own messages
  • Add or remove an emoji reaction on a message
  • See what files are attached to a message
  • Add or remove people from a space

Try asking your AI

  • “What was discussed in the release space today? Summarize the decisions.”
  • “Reply in the deploy thread that the rollout is finished.”
  • “Add a thumbs up to the announcement and show who else reacted.”
  • “Who is in this space, and who are its managers?”

What it gives back to you

You get back plain answers in the chat: lists of messages with senders and times, short summaries of what was said, names of people in a space, or the names and types of attached files. When it sends or changes something, it tells you what it did, like which space and thread the reply went to. You never see raw technical data, just the useful bits.

Before you start

What you need

  • Node.js 20 or newer on your computer
  • A Google account with access to Google Chat
  • A Google Cloud project with the Google Chat API turned on (the assistant walks you through this)

Good to know

It can send, edit, and delete messages and change who is in a space, and those actions happen for real under your name, so check the draft before you confirm.

Install it with your AI

Add Google Chat MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed

You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.

Sign in to get the install prompt

Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Google Chat MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,361 MCP servers here for you.
