Kanboard MCP server
Lets your AI read and update your Kanboard projects, tasks, and comments for you.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to your Kanboard account. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI to look at your boards, create tasks, or move things around, and it will actually do it. It is handy if you already use Kanboard at work and want to save time on the boring clicking.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app or service. This one connects your AI to Kanboard, your task board. So when you ask your AI to add a task or check what is overdue, it can actually go into Kanboard and do it for you.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about your Kanboard boards, like showing your open tasks or creating a new one. Your AI uses this helper to talk to your Kanboard account. The helper sends the request to Kanboard and brings the answer back. You see the result right in the chat, like a list of tasks or a confirmation that something was created. You can also ask it to update tasks, move them, or add comments.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List your projects and see which ones you can access
- Create, update, or close tasks on any board
- Move tasks between columns or reorder them
- Add subtasks and comments to a task
- See what is assigned to you or what is overdue
- Create many tasks at once from an email or a list
- Add or remove people from a project
Try asking your AI
- “Show me all my open tasks in the Mobile project”
- “Create a task called Fix login bug in the Backlog column of Mobile”
- “What tasks are overdue across all my projects?”
- “Turn this email into a sprint backlog for the Mobile project”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in plain language right in the chat. It might show a list of tasks with their names, columns, and due dates. If you asked it to create or change something, it tells you what it did, like '8 tasks created in Mobile/Backlog'. You can also ask for summaries, like what is overdue or what is on your plate.
Before you start
What you need
- A Kanboard account (the one you already use at work)
- A Kanboard API token (a kind of password for apps; you generate it in your Kanboard profile settings)
- The URL of your Kanboard site (like https://your-kanboard.example.com)
- An MCP-compatible AI client, such as Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, or Cline
Good to know
This helper can create, change, and delete things in your Kanboard account, so be careful when you ask it to delete or close tasks and projects.
