Bear Notes MCP server

by KuvopLLC

Let your AI read, search, create, and organize your Bear notes for you.

Flow diagram: you ask your AI “Find my bread recipe in Bear”, on your own computer the Bear Notes MCP server works with bear notes, and you get back answers in your chat.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to your Bear notes app. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI to find a note, write a new one, add tags, or check your to-do lists. It is handy if you keep a lot of notes in Bear and want to work with them by just talking.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app. This one connects your AI to Bear, your notes app, so it can look things up and make changes there when you ask. You stay in the chat, and the helper does the running around.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something about your notes, like find my recipe for bread. The AI passes that request to this helper. The helper talks to Bear through iCloud, where your notes already live. Then it brings the answer back into your chat, or makes the change you asked for, like adding a tag or creating a new note.

What you can do with it

  • Search your notes by words or dates
  • Create new notes with a title, body, and tags
  • Edit a note, append text, or replace a section
  • List your tags and see how many notes use each one
  • Find notes that have no tags yet
  • Check your to-do lists and mark items done
  • Attach an image or file to a note

Try asking your AI

  • “Find my notes about the kitchen renovation from last month”
  • “Create a new note called Weekly plan with a to-do list”
  • “What to-dos are still open in my notes?”
  • “Show me all notes tagged with ideas”

What it gives back to you

You get answers right in the chat, like a list of matching notes with their titles and a short preview. If you asked for a full note, you get the text and its tags. If you asked it to make a change, it tells you what it did, such as the note it created or the tag it added.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Mac with the Bear notes app and iCloud sync turned on
  • Node.js 18 or newer installed on your computer
  • The bcli helper program (the install steps set this up for you)
  • Signing in to iCloud once with the bcli auth command

Good to know

It can create, edit, trash, and retag your real Bear notes, so ask it to show you what it plans to change before you say yes.
