Asana MCP server
by roychri
Ask your AI about your Asana tasks, projects and comments, and let it create or update tasks for you.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to your Asana account. Once it is set up, you can ask questions about your tasks and projects in plain words, and the AI can also make changes for you. It is handy if you live in Asana all day and want to skip a lot of clicking.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app. This one connects your AI to Asana, so it can look up your tasks and projects and do things there when you ask. You stay in the chat, and the helper does the talking to Asana behind the scenes.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about Asana, like how many tasks are left in a project. The AI sends that request to this helper program. The helper talks to Asana using your access token and fetches the answer. Then the AI shows you the result in the chat, in normal sentences or a short list. If you ask it to create or update something, the helper makes that change in Asana and tells you it is done.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List your Asana workspaces
- Search for projects by name
- Search tasks with filters like completed, assignee or due date
- Read the details of a single task or project
- Create a new task or subtask
- Update a task, like changing the due date or marking it complete
- Add a comment to a task
- Count the tasks in a project
Try asking your AI
- “How many unfinished asana tasks do we have in our Sprint 30 project?”
- “Show me all asana tasks assigned to me that are due this week.”
- “Create an asana task called Prepare slides in the Marketing project, due Friday.”
- “Add a comment to that asana task saying the client approved the design.”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat, usually as a short summary or a list of tasks with their names, due dates and assignees. When it creates or updates something, it tells you what it changed. For example, it might say it created a task and give you the task ID. You do not need to read any technical output, just the plain answer.
