Trello MCP server
by agrath
Let your AI read and update your Trello boards, lists and cards for you.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to your Trello account. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI to look at your boards, add cards, move them around, or search for things, and it will do it in Trello for you. It is handy if you live in Trello all day and want to skip a lot of clicking.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot see your Trello boards or change anything there. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill, in this case a connection to Trello. You install it once, and after that your AI can look things up in Trello or make changes there when you ask.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about Trello, like what is on a board or to add a card. The AI passes your request to this helper program. The helper talks to Trello using your own account details. Trello sends back the answer or makes the change, and the helper hands it to your AI. Your AI then shows you the result in plain words in the chat.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- List your boards and see what lists and cards are on them
- Create new cards with a due date, labels and members
- Move a card from one list to another
- Add comments to cards and read the activity history
- Search across your boards, cards and members
- Add checklists and tick off items on a card
- Attach a link or a file to a card
Try asking your AI
- “What cards are in my Doing list on the Website board?”
- “Add a card called Review Q3 report to the To do list, due Friday.”
- “Move the card about the newsletter to the Done list.”
- “Search Trello for anything mentioning the budget.”
What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat in normal language. That can be a list of boards, cards or lists, a summary of what is on a board, comments and activity, or a confirmation that a card was created or moved. If a card has image attachments, the AI can show you those images too.
Before you start
What you need
- A Trello account
- A Trello API key and token (Trello's site walks you through creating them; treat them like a password)
- An AI app that supports MCP servers, like Claude Desktop, Claude Code or Gemini CLI
- Node.js installed on your computer if you run it with npx
Good to know
This helper can change and delete things in your Trello account, so if you only want it to look and not touch, turn on read-only mode with TRELLO_READ_ONLY=true.
Install it with your AI
Add Trello MCP server to your AI, no technical skills needed
You don't install anything by hand. You copy one prompt, paste it into an AI that can work on your computer, and it checks, installs and connects the server for you, asking you when it needs something.
Sign in to get the install prompt
Members get a ready-made prompt that lets the Claude desktop app check Trello MCP server, install it and connect it for them, step by step. You don't need any technical skills: you copy, paste and answer a few questions. Your connected AI can also find and install any of the 4,066 MCP servers here for you.
Who it's for
Project managers, team leads and anyone who plans their work in Trello and wants to talk to their boards instead of clicking through them.
