This is a small helper program that connects your AI assistant to your Google Tasks. Once it is set up, you can talk to your AI in plain words and it will actually look at your task lists and change them. It is handy if you keep your to-dos in Google Tasks and want to manage them without clicking around.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app. This one connects your AI to Google Tasks, so when you ask about your to-dos, the AI can look them up or change them for you. You set it up once, and after that it just works in the background.

What this MCP server does

You ask your AI something like what is on my list today. The AI passes that request to this helper program. The helper talks to Google Tasks using your Google account. Google Tasks sends back your lists and tasks, and the AI turns that into a normal answer in the chat. If you ask it to add or complete something, the helper makes that change in your Google Tasks for real.

What you can do with it

  • See all your task lists
  • List the tasks inside a list
  • Add a new task to a list
  • Mark a task as done
  • Change a task's title, notes, or due date
  • Move a task to another list or reorder it
  • Delete a task or a whole list
  • Clear out all completed tasks at once

Try asking your AI

  • “What is on my Google Tasks list right now?”
  • “Add a task called send the report to my Work list, due Friday”
  • “Mark the task about the dentist as done”
  • “Move all my shopping tasks into the Errands list”
  • “Clear the completed tasks from my Personal list”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in normal chat language. For example, a list of your tasks with their due dates, or a short confirmation that a task was added, completed, or moved. If something fails, the AI tells you what went wrong. You do not see any technical output, just the result.

Before you start

What you need

  • A Google account with Google Tasks
  • A Google Cloud project with the Google Tasks API turned on (the README walks you through it)
  • A Google OAuth Client ID and Client Secret from that project
  • Node.js 20 or newer on your computer
  • An MCP-compatible app like Claude for Desktop, Cursor, or Codex

Good to know

This helper can add, change, and delete your real Google Tasks, so double-check before you tell your AI to delete a list or clear completed tasks.
