This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to your Google Workspace account. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI to look through your files, check your calendar, read your email or update a spreadsheet, and it will do it. It is handy for anyone who lives in Gmail, Calendar and Drive all day and wants to save a few clicks.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app, and here that app is Google Workspace. This helper talks to Google on your behalf, so when you ask your AI about your files or your calendar, it can actually go and look. You stay in the chat, and the helper does the running around.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something about your Google account, like what is on your calendar tomorrow. Your AI passes that request to this helper, which uses the official Google Workspace command line tool to reach Google. Google sends the answer back, and the helper hands it to your AI, which explains it to you in plain words. If you ask it to change something, like adding a calendar event or writing to a spreadsheet, the helper makes that change for you. You choose which Google services to turn on, so you can keep it to just the ones you need.

What it gives back to you
You get answers in the chat, like a list of your meetings, the text of an email, or the contents of a document. When it reads a spreadsheet, it shows you the cell values. If it makes a change, like adding an event or writing to a sheet, it tells you what it did. For files, it can show text right in the chat or save a file for you.

- Node.js 18 or newer installed on your computer
- The Google Workspace command line tool (gws) installed and signed in to your Google account
- A Google account with access to the services you want to use
Good to know
It can change or delete things in your Google account, like files, events and spreadsheet data, so be clear about what you want and check before letting it make changes.
