Gmail and Google Calendar MCP server

by MarkusPfundstein

Let your AI read your Gmail, write drafts, and check or create Google Calendar events for you.

This is a small helper that connects your AI assistant to your Gmail and Google Calendar. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI things like "what is on my agenda tomorrow" or "write a reply to Alice's email" and it will actually go and do it. It is handy for anyone who lives in email and meetings all day and wants a hand keeping up.

What is an MCP server? The 30-second version

On its own, your AI can only chat. It cannot see your inbox or your calendar. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill, in this case a connection to your Gmail and Google Calendar accounts. You ask in plain words, the AI passes the request to this helper, and the helper talks to Google for you.

What this MCP server does

You type a request in your AI chat, like "show my unread emails" or "what is on my calendar tomorrow". The AI sends that request to this helper program running on your computer. The helper signs in to your Google account and asks Gmail or Calendar for what you wanted. It sends the answer back to the AI, and the AI shows it to you in the chat. For things like writing a draft or creating an event, the helper makes the change in your Google account and tells you it is done.

What you can do with it

  • Search your Gmail for unread messages, senders, or date ranges
  • Read the full content of an email and summarize it for you
  • Write a new draft email with recipients, subject, body, and CC
  • Reply to an email and either send it or save it as a draft
  • Save attachments from your emails to your computer
  • Check what is on your calendar for a given day or week
  • Create or delete calendar events with times, location, and guests
  • Work with more than one Google account, like work and personal

Try asking your AI

  • “Retrieve my latest unread messages”
  • “Search my emails from the Scrum Master and summarize them”
  • “Write a nice reply to Alice's last email and save it as a draft”
  • “What do I have on my agenda tomorrow?”
  • “I need to plan an event with Tim for 2 hours next week. Suggest some time slots.”

What it gives back to you

You get answers in the chat: lists of emails with sender, subject, and date, or a summary of what an email says. For calendar questions you get the events with their times and titles. When it writes a draft or creates an event, it tells you what it did so you can check it in Gmail or Calendar.

Before you start

What you need
