Microsoft Teams MCP server
by InditexTech
Let your AI read and post Microsoft Teams messages, reply in threads, and mention people for you.

This is a helper that connects your AI assistant to Microsoft Teams. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI to read what is happening in a channel, start a new thread, or reply to a message. It is handy for anyone who spends a lot of the day in Teams and wants to save some clicking.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill, in this case a connection to Microsoft Teams. You ask your AI something in plain words, the AI passes the request to this helper, and the helper talks to Teams for you. So instead of opening Teams yourself, your AI can look things up or post messages there on your behalf.
What this MCP server does
You type a request in your AI chat, like asking what was said in a channel or asking it to post an update. Your AI sends that request to this MCP server, which is running quietly in the background. The server then talks to Microsoft Teams using a connection you set up beforehand. Teams does the work, and the answer or the result comes back through the server to your AI. Your AI then shows you the messages, the list of people, or confirms that your post went out.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Read the messages in a Teams channel
- Start a new thread in a channel with a title and content
- Reply to an existing thread
- Mention people in a message so they get notified
- List the members of a channel or team
- Read the replies inside a thread
Try asking your AI
- “What are the latest messages in the project channel?”
- “Post a new thread in the general channel titled Weekly update with a short summary of today's standup”
- “Reply to the latest thread in the support channel and mention Ana”
- “Who is in the marketing team channel?”
What it gives back to you
You get back plain answers in your AI chat: lists of messages with who wrote them and when, lists of team members, or a short confirmation that your new thread or reply was posted. If you asked for a summary, your AI can turn the messages it read into a short paragraph for you. You do not see any technical details, just the result.
Before you start
What you need
- A Microsoft Teams account with the right setup done by your IT team
- An app registration in Microsoft Entra ID (your IT admin usually creates this and gives you the ID and password)
- The IDs of the team and channel you want to work with
- Python 3.12 and the uv package manager, or Docker, on the machine that runs the server
Good to know
This server can post and reply in your Teams channels as you, so check what your AI is about to send before you let it go out.
Install it with your AI
