Outlook Assistant MCP server
Lets your AI read, search, send, and organise your Outlook email, calendar, and contacts from the chat.

Outlook Assistant is a helper that connects your AI assistant to your Microsoft Outlook account. Once it is set up, you can ask your AI to find emails, send messages, book meetings, and tidy up your inbox without switching windows. It is handy for anyone who lives in Outlook all day and wants to save time.
What is an MCP server? The 30-second version
On its own, your AI can only chat with you. An MCP server is a small helper program that gives your AI a new skill or a connection to an app. This one connects your AI to Outlook, so it can look things up and do things in your mailbox when you ask. You stay in the conversation, and the helper handles the Outlook side.
What this MCP server does
You ask your AI something in plain words, like find the email from your manager about the budget. The AI passes that request to Outlook Assistant, which talks to your Outlook account. The helper brings back the matching emails, or sends a message, or books a meeting for you. Then your AI shows you the result right in the chat, so you can read it or ask for a change.
Click to zoomWhat you can do with it
- Search your inbox by sender, subject, date, or keywords
- Read full email threads and summarise them
- Send emails with a preview first, so you can check before it goes out
- Create and update drafts, then send them when ready
- View upcoming calendar events and schedule new meetings
- Manage contacts by searching, adding, or updating them
- Export emails to files like Markdown, CSV, or JSON
- Set up folders, inbox rules, and out-of-office replies
Try asking your AI
- “Find all emails from Sarah in the last two weeks and summarise them”
- “Draft a reply to the latest message from the finance team and show it to me first”
- “What meetings do I have tomorrow morning?”
- “Export the thread about the office move to a Markdown file”
What it gives back to you
You get answers and lists in the chat, like a list of matching emails with senders and dates, or a summary of a thread. If you ask it to send or change something, it tells you what it did. For exports, it saves a file you can open later. Everything shows up as normal text in your conversation.
Before you start
What you need
- A Microsoft Outlook account (personal Outlook.com or work/school Microsoft 365)
- A Microsoft Azure app registration with a client ID and client secret (a kind of password for apps; the setup guide walks you through it)
- An MCP-compatible AI client like Claude Desktop, Claude Code, Cursor, or Windsurf
Good to know
This helper can send emails and delete or change things in your mailbox, so always read what the AI plans to do before you approve it.
